Healthy Yolo brings together community members, non-profits, government agencies, and healthcare to collectively build a Yolo County where everyone has what they need to thrive. Healthy Yolo is coordinated (backboned) by staff from the Public Health Branch of Yolo County HHSA.

    Free Gardening Class: Integrated Pest Management for the Backyard Gardener

    • Introduction: Low cost and natural methods for keeping garden pests away.

    Are those unwanted critters and bugs getting between you and your garden produce?

    Come to the Hanna and Herbert Bauer Memorial Community Garden for a free class on integrated pest management (IPM). IPM is a low cost and natural approach to reducing unwanted pests in your garden. This class will be held on Wednesday, June 26th from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. and will be taught by Barbara Ohlendorf, a Yolo County University of California Master Gardener.

    Participants will learn:

    • How to identify beneficial and unwanted pests.
    • Determine if pests are becoming a problem. 
    • About natural methods that are used to control them.

    There will also be time to ask questions and discuss common pest problems in our region.

    No experience is necessary and all are welcome to attend. Help us plan by registering on or before June 25th to david.linebarger@yolocounty.org or 530-666-8429. 

    Planning to attend: please bring water and sun protection, as the class is outside in the garden; in the event of extreme heat the class will be moved inside
