“YES!” Receives National Election Center Award

Woodland, CA – Election Center, the National Association of Election Officials, recognized “YES!” at their annual conference in Florida. “YES!” received one of seven national awards presented. Yolo County received the Guardian Award for Promoting and Exemplifying Professional Principles and Standards. This award is part of the Election Center’s Professional Practices Program.

The Yolo County Youth Empowerment Summit “YES!” is a one-day event that empowers and encourages youth to say “YES!” to leadership roles and civic engagement in their local communities. The second annual summit was held in March 2019, with over 100 students in attendance. The summit educates youth about local government, the election process and encourages civic engagement among local youth. Sacramento and Monterey counties are taking steps to replicate “YES!” in 2020.

“Having “YES!” recognized at a national level is a significant accomplishment. I want to thank our partners and donors for making this possible. We look forward to the 2020 summit and growing our student participation,” says Jesse Salinas, Yolo County Assessor/Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters. “YES!” is a collaboration between the Yolo County Election Office, City of Woodland Public Library’s Teen Advisory Board, Woodland League of Women Voters, Yolo County Office of Education, Early Academic Outreach Program at UC Davis, Yolo County Friday Night Live, Yolo County Library, ASSETs, Woodland Community College, KNOWiNK Poll Pad and HART InterCivic.

The “YES!” partnership is co-hosting a fundraising event with the Davis OddFellows #169 and the Davis Firefighters Local 3493 to support the next Youth Empowerment Summit. The event (YoloFest: A Celebration of Democracy) will be held on Sunday October 20th from 2 to 6pm at 415 2nd Street, Oddfellows Lodge in Davis, CA.
