Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council

The Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council is advisory to the Probation Department on a continuum of county-based responses to juvenile crime.  A primary focus of the Council is to develop a comprehensive, multiagency plan that identifies the resources and strategies for providing an effective continuum of responses for the prevention, intervention, supervision, treatment and incarceration of male and female juvenile offenders, including strategies to develop and implement locally based or regionally based out-of-home placement options (Yolo County Comprehensive Multi-Agency Juvenile Justice Plan).

A subcommittee of the Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council is responsible developing a plan describing the facilities, programs, placements, services, supervision and reentry strategies that are needed to provide appropriate rehabilitative services for youth realigned from the Division of Juvenile Justice to counties. The Council is chaired by the Chief Probation Officer and includes representatives from the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office, Sheriff’s Department, Board of Supervisors and Health & Human Services Agency, as well as representatives from a community-based drug and alcohol program, nonprofit community-based organizations providing services to minors, a city policy department and the Yolo County Office of Education.

The Council also benefits from community members from each of the supervisorial districts.  Qualification for these members include: experience providing community-based youth services; youth justice advocates with expertise and knowledge of the juvenile justice system; or those that have been directly involved in the juvenile justice system.

Future meetings are yet to be scheduled. It is anticipated the Council will meet monthly in late 2020 and early 2021, and then quarterly.
