On March 5, 2024, Oscar Villegas was re-elected for a fourth term as the Yolo County Supervisor for District 1, which encompasses a majority of West Sacramento and the community of Clarksburg. Supervisor Villegas has been serving as the representative for District 1 since February 2014.
Villegas has spent the last couple of years making sure that the one-time federal recovery monies provided to Yolo County went back into our community to address the impacts caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. At the same time, he has focused a lot of attention on ensuring a responsive health care delivery system, supporting an effective criminal justice system for adult and juvenile populations, working with our city partners to support efforts to address the issues of homelessness with housing options and critical wrap around health and mental health services, protecting the Delta estuary, enhancing flood protection and maintaining the health of our waterways. Villegas has been instrumental in supporting the City of West Sacramento in its strategic approach to quality growth while supporting the emerging wine industry in Clarksburg and preservation of agricultural land throughout Yolo County.
Villegas has demonstrated a longstanding dedication to public service. From 1997-2000, when the city was just beginning to hit its stride, he served as member/chairman of the West Sacramento Planning Commission when the city was updating its general plan elements and developing several area specific plans. From 2000-2014, when the city began to see significant growth, as a member of West Sacramento City Council, Villegas helped the city develop a policy agenda resulting in vast improvements in housing, retail, infrastructure, recreation, and transportation- a real time of transformation for the city of West Sacramento. He was hands on in helping the city during the construction of Sutter Health Park, home to the Sacramento River Cats, and where the Oakland A’s will call home for at least three years beginning in 2025.
Villegas spent most of his professional career working for the State of California with the Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs and the Board of State and Community Corrections. During his professional career, he received gubernatorial appointments by Governor Davis and Governor Schwarzenegger before being appointed by Governor Brown to the Yolo County Board of Supervisors in 2014.
A lifelong resident of West Sacramento, Supervisor Villegas was raised in the Bryte/Broderick neighborhood attending local schools before attending Christian Brothers High School. After high school he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento. He currently lives in the Southport neighborhood with his wife Katie. He has two grown children, Elena, and Vincent, who also call West Sacramento home.
