The Safe Body Art Act regulates tattooing, permanent cosmetics, branding, and piercing. This law requires all body art practitioners to annually register with the County and work from an approved and inspected facility. Temporary body art events and mechanical ear piercing businesses are also regulated by the Safe Body Art Act.

Disease can be spread through improperly sanitized equipment and facilities that provide tattoos, piercing, and permanent body cosmetics. These standards are intended to protect both their practitioner and customer from infectious diseases by ensuring sanitary procedures, including the use of sterile equipment. Sanitation and safety conditions of these facilities are monitored through our registration, permitting and inspection program.

1. Submit a plan check application (use the Body Art Facility Plan Check Guide to ensure a complete submittal) with the following and pay the plan check fee.
   
   • Detailed facility plan (see example)
   • Equipment Specifications
   • IPCP (Infection Prevent and Control Plan)
     • Template for IPCP with Decontamination and Sanitation Area
     • Template for IPCP with Disposable Equipment
   • Informed Consent Form
   • Medical Questionnaire
   • Post Procedure Instructions
2. After plans have been approved complete Health Permit Application and pay the permit fee.

• Proof of completion of an approved Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure Control Training
• Hepatitis B (at least one of the following is required)
  • Proof of vaccination
  • Evidence of immunity
  • Signed vaccination declination statement
