Airport Detention Pond

Project Management and Supporting Documents

Construction of a detention pond is complete at Yolo County Airport and is placed on the east side of the airfield, outside the security fence. The purpose of the pond is to maintain control of waters leaving the airport, much like a barrel under a rain spout, catching waters moving east and metering their release over a 48-hour period.

Referencing the map below, the extent of airport flooding can be seen at its highest levels. The detention pond waters will release into the Airport Drainage Channel and move south, joining with other waters. The detention pond will retain and hold rain water, release it more slowly over a period of time, and limit airport impact on downstream flooding, as much as possible.
