What is the Yolo County Veterans Service Office (VSO)?

The VSO is an office established by the Board of Supervisors to assist veterans, their dependents and survivors, in obtaining benefits from federal, state and local agencies administering programs for veterans.  The VSO is a county agency that assists veterans in dealing with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)

Our Purpose

We provide advocacy to the veteran community regarding entitlement to federal, state and local benefits.

Services We Provide

The VSO offers the following services: 

• Comprehensive benefit counseling
• Claim preparation and submission
• Claim follow-up
• Initiate and develop appeals when appropriate
• Networking with federal, state and local agencies
• Information and referral services for: 
  • Employment
  • Public Assistance
  • VA medical care
  • Social Security
  • Transportation to medical appointments

Additionally, the VSO can assist you with the following: 

• Compensation for service-related injuries
• Re-open Compensation Claim for increase
• Survivors Benefit for service-connected death
• Pension for war-era veterans
• Death pension for non service-connected death
• Dependent's survivors benefits
• Discharge acquisition and storage
• Housebound and Aid and Attendance allowance
• State Veterans Home
• Request for Military Records and Decorations
• Medical and Dental Benefits
• Benefit Verification for other agencies
• Vocational Rehabilitation
• Home Loan Certification
• Education Benefits
• Life Insurance
• Burial Benefits
• Transportation is available to some VA Medical Facilities for medical appointments (by volunteer drivers)
