Adult Services

Voting RightsAdult Court Unit

This unit provides the Court with reports which include background information about defendants and the alleged offense, as well as recommendations that take into consideration whether the defendant can be safely rehabilitated in the community and if so, which rehabilitative services should be provided. Adult Court Unit officers attend court hearings to ensure accurate and timely information is relayed to the Court, Defense Counsel and the District Attorney. The unit also participates in two collaborative court programs: Addiction Intervention Court, which serves clients suffering from substance use disorders; and Mental Health Court, which serves clients suffering from serious mental illness. The collaborative court programs are a hybrid of providing direct service and supervision to the clients, writing investigative reports for the Court, collaborating with multiple County agencies and attending court to relay the client’s progress to the Judge.

Courthouse 1Adult Supervision Unit

This unit monitors client compliance with Court-ordered terms and conditions of supervision. The level of supervision is determined based on the client’s risk to reoffend and the risk the client poses to the community. Probation Officers meet with clients at home, in the office, in treatment or in the community to address their criminogenic needs and provide services to aid in their rehabilitative journey. The Probation Officer plays a supportive role in guiding clients into community services to address negative behaviors that put them at risk to reoffend. They maintain accountability by intervening when the client engages in detrimental behavior to victims or the community. Officers also collaborate with community partners to ensure clients engage in recommended services and to assist clients in becoming productive members of society. Additionally, Probation Officers share information and work together with other law enforcement agencies to help promote safe communities.

Pre-Trial Services

This unit provides the Court with background information to determine appropriate release for defendants in custody prior to sentencing. The unit then works with these defendants to ensure they appear in Court. The Pre-Trial Services Unit protects the community by enforcing the Court’s terms and conditions for clients released on Supervised Own Recognizance and reduces recidivism through a collaborative effort in specialized supervision, as well as utilizing GPS and Alcohol Monitoring technology as a means to protect victims and deter intoxicated drivers.
