This unit provides transportation services primarily for juvenile defendants to and from court hearings, designated treatment or placement facilities.

Juvenile Transports: From the Yolo County Juvenile Detention Facility to Court hearings (staff also maintains Court security while in Court), residential treatment programs, placements and youth ranches located throughout California, and various medical appointments, when the need cannot be met by medical services provided at the Juvenile Detention Facility (JDF), airport/airline to designated locations, and other detention facilities.

Juvenile Transports to the Yolo County Juvenile Detention Facility: From Court hearings when an out-of-custody offender is remanded into custody by the Judge, Juvenile halls located in other jurisdictions when the minor is a ward or resident of Yolo County but who has been arrested or violated probation in that other jurisdiction, and residential treatment programs, placements, youth ranches located throughout California when the minor has failed or completed the program and now must be returned to Yolo County.

Transportation Training Requirements

Officers assigned to the Transportation Unit are Peace Officers under Penal Code Section 830.5 and are armed while on duty. All officers maintain rigorous training requirements. These include, but are not limited to: Firearms Familiarization; Force and Weaponry; Use of Force/Intervention Techniques; Quarterly Firing Range Qualification; Monthly Firing Range Exercises; Management of Assaultive Behavior/Control and Arrest Techniques.
