The Disaster Service Worker (DSW) program has developed training materials to ensure that you, as a designated DSW, can do the following:
- Understand your critical role in responding to and recovering from a disaster.
- Help you prepare and protect yourself and your family first so you can then focus on helping others.
- Understand your possible job roles in a disaster and how to get to your assignments.
- Introduce you to additional required and optional learning for disaster preparedness.
Training for DSW
Step 1 - Take the DSW Overview Training:
- Disaster Service Worker Orientation Training for non-County employees
Note: Yolo County employees access this training through Yolo Training Academy.
Step 2 - Take the California Standardized Emergency Management System Introduction (SEMS) Training:
- SEMS G606 - (Online Course)
- Go to CSTI web site
- Create an account
- Click on Browse Training
- Use the Search magnifying glass in the upper right-hand corner to access the search box
- Enter: "G606 Online"
Step 3—Complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) Training listed below and obtain certificates of completion.
· Course 1: FEMA Independent Study IS-700: NIMS and Introduction
o Identifies purposes, principles, key components, and benefits of NIMS.
o It takes up to 3.5 hours to complete.
· Course- 2: FEMA Independent Study IS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System
o Introduces ICS and describes the history, features, principles, and organizational structure of ICS
o Explains the relationship between ICS and NIMS.
o It takes up to 2 hours to complete.
