Oak Woodlands Plan Adopted

The Yolo County Board of Supervisors has adopted the Yolo County Oak Woodland Conservation and Enhancement Plan. This voluntary program encourages the protection and growth of oak woodlands by providing financial incentives to landowners and establishing public outreach and educational programs, and working with the University of California to encourage oak woodland-related research in the county.

Certification Process for Projects in Yolo County Seeking

Oak Woodlands Conservation Act of 2001 Funding

Yolo County Project Certification:

In order for oak woodland conservation and enhancement projects in Yolo County to receive certification of project consistency with the regional oak woodlands conservation plan, project applicants must submit Yolo County’s Supplemental Applications Sheet available at: Oaks supplemental application along with the completed Oak Woodlands Conservation Act of 2001 Program Application (available at the Wildlife Conservation Board website at: https://wcb.ca.gov/Programs/Oaks) to the Yolo County Parks and Resources Department for review prior to submitting a funding application to the Wildlife Conservation Board.

Once the application package is submitted to the Yolo County Parks and Resources Department, County staff will arrange a site visit and rank the project based on the checklist on page 43 of the Yolo County Oak Woodland Conservation and Enhancement Plan. Projects that are ranked as high or moderate based on the checklist criteria will be considered consistent with the regional plan be presented at a Parks, Resources, and Wildlife Advisory Committee public meeting for certification approval.

Certification Process:

• Applicant submits the Wildlife Conservation Board Oak Woodlands Conservation grant application, supporting materials (easement language or management plan when applicable), and Supplemental Application Sheet for Projects in Yolo County to the Yolo County Parks and Resources Department for review
• Applicant arranges a site visit with Yolo County Parks and Resources Department staff
• County staff fills out the certification checklist for the proposed project (applicant may be contacted if additional information is needed)
• Projects ranked as high or moderate according to the Oak Woodland Checklist are presented to the Yolo County Parks and Wildlife Advisory Committee for final comments and review
• Applicants whose projects are certified as consistent with the Yolo County Oak Woodland Conservation and Enhancement Plan will receive: a completed project checklist, a copy of County’s Oak Woodlands Management Plan resolution, and Certification letter from county staff to include in their project application package to the Wildlife Conservation Board
