Yolo County Parks currently has park hosts at four (4) of our parks located throughout the county. Generally, park hosts receive the use of an RV space and utilities in exchange for light duties at our parks. Park hosts are required to live on site and be present over the weekend. We do provide our hosts with two days off during the week. Please see the specific sites for information on duties and benefits. All park hosts are volunteers with Yolo County and must clear reference checks, LiveScan fingerprinting, drug testing and a routine background check.

We currently have hosts at: Capay Open Space Park, Elkhorn Regional Park and Boat Launch, Cache Creek Regional Park Campground, and Grasslands Park.

We are always accepting applications for all sites at all times.

Grasslands Park

Grasslands Park is a 320-acre park that contains significant natural resources with conservation of vernal pools, Burrowing owls, Swainson's hawks and other rare and endangered species. Most of the park has ben natively restored with plants that would natively and historically be found on site. By contrast it also serves as a place for active recreational clubs such as the Sacramento Valley Soaring Society (SVSS) for use of non-motorized model airplane soaring and the Yolo Bowmen (YB) who operate a large archery range near the park entrance. The park remains largely rural in nature and general public restrooms and potable water are not available. The SVSS and the YB provide portable restrooms and small parking areas for the public at their use areas. The rural portions of site are managed through large tractor mowing and sheep grazing year round. The Park Host is required to reside on site.

• The park host area is enclosed by a six-foot chain link fence with locking gates.
• The concrete park host pad is 12’ x 40’.
• There is a separate concrete parking spot connected to the pad which is 10’ x 35’.
• There is a concrete patio also attached to the park host pad which is 10’ x 30’.
• There is a 12’ x 10’ storage shed for park host use.

Utilities Provided by Yolo County

• Electricity: 120 and 30 amp receptacles and 120/240 on a 240 receptacle
• Sewer
• Propane
• Non-potable water for RV and bottled water provided to hosts.

Satellite TV and internet service are available at this location but will be the sole financial responsibility of the park hosts. No permanent structures are available for the mounting of dishes or antennas.
Cell phone reception is not available at this park. Land line phone service is available and lines are in place up to the host pad. The park host is required to have phone service activated; listed under their name; and working for the duration of their contract. Yolo County will reimburse the park host for the costs of local service and work related long distance calls.
Pets are allowed within the park host area but must be kept on a leash or chain while the park is open. The park host may have pets off leash during the hours the park is closed provided the pets are kept in the park host area. Proof of current vaccinations and license is required. The host is responsible for cleaning up after their pets at all times.

Park Host Duties

• Open the gate at dawn and close the gate at dusk. Prior to closing the gate, walk around the park to ensure park guests have left.
• Maintain park host site by keeping area clean and presentable. Staff mows the lawns weekly or as needed.
• Water park host site 2 to 3 times a week or as needed, depending on weather.
• Regularly walk through the park to ensure park guests are using the park appropriately and speak with guests about minor infractions.
• Pick up trash in parking lot and throughout the park, as needed.
• Greet and assist park guests.
• Notify parks staff of any equipment malfunctions.
• Notify emergency services and Yolo County Parks staff in the event of any emergencies.

Elkhorn Regional Park Boat Launch

Elkhorn Regional Park is located on the berm between the levee and the Sacramento River, approximately 1.75 miles south of where I-5 crosses the Sacramento River on Old River Road. The park is 55 acres of lush riparian vegetation and offers a wide variety of wildlife. Recreational opportunities include fishing, picnicking, bird watching, nature study, and boating. The park has a boat ramp, picnic area, parking lot, and sanitary facilities. The park is open from 7:00 a.m. until dusk, except when river conditions require closure. A use fee is also required. Overnight camping is prohibited. The park host is required to reside on site.

• The park host area is enclosed with locking gates.
• The park host pad is 15’ x 60’.
• There is a separate parking spot connected to the pad which provides adequate parking for a large vehicle and boat.
• There is a lockable 12’ x 10’ storage shed for park host use.

• Electricity: 120 and 30 amp receptacles and 120/240 on a 240 receptacle
• Sewer
• Propane
• Potable water with a cartridge filtering system.

Satellite TV and internet service are available at this location but will be the sole financial responsibility of the park hosts. No permanent structures are available for the mounting of dishes or antennas.
Cell phone service is available at this park and park hosts are required to have a personal working cell phone available at all times.
Pets are allowed within the park host area but must be kept on a leash, chain or owner provided kennel, at all times. Proof of current vaccinations and license is required. The host is responsible for cleaning up after their pets at all times.

• Pick up trash in parking lot.
• Greet and assist park guests.
• Notify parks staff of any equipment malfunctions.
• Notify emergency services and Yolo County Parks in the event of any emergencies.

Capay Open Space Park

15603 County Road 85, Esparto CA 95627

Located approximately 15 miles west of Woodland, and 1/3 mile north of the town of Capay adjacent to CR 85, the site offers the public direct access to Cache Creek. The 41 acre site offers the public opportunities for hiking on all weather trails specifically designed to be accessible for disabled users, nature study, fishing, picnic tables, barbecues, potable water and restrooms. Overnight camping is prohibited. The park host is required to reside on site.

• The park closes at dusk. Overnight camping is prohibited.
• The park host area has a five foot high redwood fence for privacy.
• The park host pad, which is 12' x 85', is designed as a drive through. The pad is narrow and provides a small amount of additional space for storage.

Cache Creek Canyon Regional Park; Middle Site Campground

1475 Hwy 16, Rumsey, CA 95679

Cache Creek Canyon Regional Park is located along Highway 16, approximately 6 miles north of the town of Rumsey. This 700+ acre park consists of 3 developed areas: Upper, Middle, and Lower sites. This park also provides access to 54,000 acres of Federal Bureau of Land Management property, including the Blue Ridge Trail.

The campground (middle site) is one of our busiest locations during the summer and is frequented by people from all over the state of California. The park has 45 camping sites, 4 group sites, and a day use area. The Park is staffed with one paid Park Host and one volunteer Park Host. Some weekends we may have additional volunteer Park Host’s assisting. Day use and camping fees are required at this park.

• The concrete pad for the paid Park Host is 20’ x 40’. There is adequate on site parking for a vehicle and a boat.
• The volunteer (unpaid) park host area is currently adjacent to the store and has only enough room for a trailer.   
• There is a 10’ x 10’ storage shed available for use. It is shared with the other park hosts.
• A washer (cold water only) and dryer are available for use.
• A full size refrigerator freezer is available for use. It is shared by all the hosts on site.
• The campground has an office for checking in park guests.

Utilities Provided by Yolo County

• Electricity: 120 and 30 amp receptacles that are solar powered. A back up generator is also available. You will need a surge protector for you RV.
• Sewer
• Propane
• Potable water for RV.

Cell phone service is not available at the campground. There is a two way radio for contacting emergency services. The county also provides a landline in the office for work duties and emergencies. Internet is available and provided by the County and Parks staff can be reached by email.

Satellite TV service is available at this location but will be the sole responsibility of the park hosts. No permanent structures are available for the mounting of dishes or antennas.

Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash, chain or owner provided kennel at all times. Proof of current vaccinations and license is required. The host is responsible for cleaning up after their pets.

An off-road utility ATV and a county truck are available for use by park hosts within the campground.

Park Hosts Duties

• Greet and check in park guests; collect payment; and issue receipt. Assist park guests and go over park rules.
• Sell fire wood and shower tokens. 
• Maintain park host site by keeping area clean and presentable. Staff mows the lawns weekly or as needed.
• Place reminder notices, as necessary, for those people that did not pay their park fees (Upper, Middle, and Lower sites).
• Test campground water for chlorine residual daily and log. (Training will be provided).
• Clean and restock both restrooms daily.
• Regularly walk through the park to ensure park guests are using the park appropriately. Speak with guests about minor infractions.
• Inspect play ground area daily.
• Pick up trash throughout the campground as needed.
• Notify parks staff of any equipment malfunctions.
• Notify emergency services and Yolo County Parks in the event of any emergencies.
• Check the beach area for trash and user issues

Staff is at the campground 4 to 5 days a week to mow the lawns, irrigate and make repairs. They will bring park supplies as they are needed.
