All appliances designed to contain refrigerant are charged the rate in the fee schedule.  Each appliance is checked by a certified technician to confirm that all refrigerants and oils are properly removed.  Venting refrigerants to the atmosphere is illegal and does not decrease the cost.

Household Hazardous Waste/Sharps

Fluorescent tubes & bulbs are accepted for residents of Yolo County only.

For commercial fluorescent tubes and bulbs please call (800) 207-8222 for appointment. With your appointment you can bring your fluorescent tubes and bulbs to our Household Hazardous Waste events, Thursday, Friday & Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Household batteries (such as alkaline batteries, nickel cadmium batteries, button batteries from watches) can be recycled at the Yolo County Central Landfill and Esparto Convenience and at some participating CVS stores (free of charge). Rechargeable batteries (such as nickel cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), Lithium ion (Li-ion), small sealed lead acid, motorcycle batteries and automotive batteries are accepted daily at the Yolo County Central Landfill (free of charge).

Empty paint cans or cans with hardened paint can be placed in the garbage but first, remove all covers and let the paint dry fully before placing in a garbage container.

How to Recycle

The Yolo County Landfill paint drop-off accepts up to 15 gallons at a time. This amount is the legal amount you can haul at a time. If you have more than this amount you will need to make more than one trip. 

Make sure all paint containers have lids and original labels, and load them securely in your vehicle.  Take them to a drop-off site during their regular business hours. 

 

 

Large Volume Pick up (LVP) Service

PaintCare offers a free pick-up service to painting contractors, property managers, and others with large amounts of leftover architectural paint.

Empty propane tanks can be disposed of at your local propane gas vendor or Yolo County residents can bring them to the Household Hazardous Waste Events (HHW) (free of charge).

No, however, if your business qualifies as a small quantity generator, you can make an appointment to dispose of your hazardous waste for a fee.

Under California state law certain materials, known as household
hazardous waste (HHW) are prohibited from disposal in everyday
garbage.  Types of HHW include:  electronic devices with a circuit
board (VCRs, cell phones, microwaves, telephones, printers, radios,
computers, monitors, TVs), batteries, motor oil, latex or oil based paints,
solvents, household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, poisons,
fluorescent bulbs or tubes, electrical switches/relays, pilot light sensors,
mercury thermostats, and home generated medical waste.

Yes.  The Yolo County Central Landfill and Esparto Convenience Center are supported by tipping fees from customers and program grants.  No tax dollars fund the landfill.

No. It is neither safe nor legal to take things from the Yolo County Central Landfill or the Esparto Convenience Center. Permit regulations prohibit scavenging onsite and it can be dangerous.
